Earth Day Edit

To celebrate Earth Day today, we've pulled together 5 small day-to-day ideas, that when we all take part, can make a big difference to our planet!

• Leave the car and walk or cycle - even if it's just to the shops!
• Recycle, recycle, recycle! We're huge fans of recycling and upcycling where we can - did you know that all orders dispatched from the Den are wrapped in recycled and recyclable packaging!
• Plant a tree or donate to a project such as the National Trust
• Get involved with a local litter picking group or on your daily walk. It can make a big difference to your local community and area
• Swap to LED bulbs - energy-efficient and environmentally-friendly

As a business we are constantly looking at ways to become more sustainable and socially responsible, from the eco-friendly, recycled and recyclable packaging we use to wrap all orders dispatched from the Den, to the products that we stock; from brands who are committed to a sustainably responsible production process and using recycled and reclaimed materials, to brands who work with local artisans and communities, as well as charities such as Fair Trade and Goodweave International.

Recycled Planters
Danish in design and part of a sustainable production, these stylish eco-friendly planters by OOhh are handmade on the west coast of Sri Lanka as part of a Fair Trade project, providing income to less privileged women and their families. Made from recycled paper, the Scandinavian planters are cleverly coated with natural latex rubber inside to ensure that they are 100% waterproof. Sustainable Storage
Made from natural washable materials, which are sustainably sourced, these stylish and versatile paper bags from Uashmama (pronounced "wash mama") are incredibly strong and durable. Designed and handmade in Tuscany, Italy these stylish bags are ideal for use in the kitchen to hold bread, pastries, fruit, veg or herbs. Goodweave Certified Rugs
Handcrafted from natural organic cotton, these cosy rugs are certified by Goodweave, a non-profit organisation working hard to end child labour, whilst inspecting factories and providing rehabilitation and education for former child weavers. They are also OEKO-TEX® certified, using low-impact dyes and a sustainable production process.

Recycled PET Storage Baskets
Part of a sustainable production, these antique gold storage baskets are handwoven from recycled PET, an eco-friendly fabric consisting of recycled plastic pet bottles. The versatile baskets, which are available in small and large, come with side handles for easy carriage and can be used to store anything from accessories and toiletries, to indoor plants - for a truly Scandi boho vibe!

Upcycled Shelving Unit
These sustainably sourced, high quality FENCY shelving units, by Dutch design house Tolhuijs, are handcrafted by workers from disadvantaged backgrounds through social workshop. The responsibly sourced steel frames are made from salvaged material from a local fence factory, which have then been given a fresh powder coated finish, and come with a choice of reclaimed wooden shelves. With a modern and playful style, the wall units are multi-functional and extremely practical. Choose from two sizes (small and medium) and a choice of four colours (black, white, yellow and green).

Handmade Natural Vegan Soaps and Candles
Handcrafted in small batches in the UK, TANAKA soaps are 100% natural, using cruelty-free ingredients and contain no SLS, parabens, synthetics or palm oil. Whilst Join handmake a range of candles, room reed diffusers and vegan soaps, which are also sustainable and contain no chemicals or nasties! All Join candles contain 100% natural organic soy wax and an aromatherapy blend of luxurious essential oils. Each one is then carefully packed in sustainably sourced, recycled packaging.

Reclaimed Furniture
Our best-selling industrial rustic range is handcrafted from solid reclaimed rough sawn wood - making it an eco-friendly option, as well as providing plenty of storage for all of the family! The wood itself is sealed with a satin lacquer which brings out the detail and beautiful imperfections of the wood, as well as giving it a resilient hard-wearing finish.
