An overview of product care and maintenance can be found below. However, please always read the individual product label(s) and any care, maintenance and installation instructions provided carefully before use. Please hold onto any instructions provided and keep for future reference.
HOME ACCESSORIES
- Always read the product label and follow any care and/or washing instructions carefully
- Slight variations may occur with products which are handcrafted and/or hand painted
- We recommend using coasters under vases or small planters which are handcrafted or made from natural materials, in order to protect surfaces. Alternatively use faux foliage and flowers
- - - - -
FURNITURE SAFETY
- Always lift, never drag furniture, as this can cause injury or damage
- Lift from under the frame, not the top, e.g.: table top
- Any furniture which requires full or part assembly should be carried out by a competent person to ensure it has been installed correctly
- If an anti-topple device is included with furniture, you must install it in accordance with the instructions provided using fixings suitable for the wall type. If unsure, please seek advice of a professional
FURNITURE CARE & MAINTENANCE
Foam Upholstery Cleaners / Cotton & Linen
- Always read the fabric care label carefully
- You should be able to clean most cotton/linen fabrics yourself, but there are always exceptions so it's best to test a small discrete area first - consult a professional if unsure
- Gently vacuum the upholstery one a week to remove any dust, loose dirt, crumbs or pet hair. Remove any leftover pet hair with a sticky roller lint remover
- If you are using an upholstery cleaner, carefully read the label of the product you are using to check if it is compatible with the fabric - consult a professional if unsure
- Spot clean serious stains first and then continue to clean the entire piece of furniture. Always follow the product instruction carefully, e.g.: spraying, spreading evenly with damp sponge, drying and vacuuming
- You may wish to apply a stain-resistant product when an item is new
- Keep your furniture out of direct sunlight, as it will fade the fabric
Velvets
- Velvet is a very delicate material, which requires special care
- Always read the fabric care label carefully
- Vacuum clean your velvet upholstered furniture with the correct attachment and ensure you collect all loose fibres, e.g.: dust, feathers, hair
- Using a soft brush, brush the velvet upholstery in the direction of the pile
- When removing stains, apply a soft clean cloth to absorb any liquid first. Don't apply too much pressure, as this can damage the fibres. Continue removing the stain using a cleaning solution, consisting of warm water and some drops of dish-wash detergent. Stir and shake the solution until suds appear - apply the suds ONLY carefully on the stain. You can also use a dry cleaning product to remove the stain, let it dry well and brush it in the same direction as the pile until the fabric returns to its normal appearance - always read the label of the product you are using carefully and follow the instructions provided. A steam cleaner is ideal for removing stains, dirt and debris, but should be performed by a professional
Leather
- Always read the fabric care label carefully
- If using a cleaning product, always use a reputable leather cleaning product and follow the instructions carefully
- Regular wiping with a damp, soft cloth is often enough to keep a leather sofa or armchair looking pristine
- Vacuum regularly to remove dust and dirt, paying close attention along the stitch lines
- Keep leather seating at least 50cm away from heat sources to avoid the leather cracking
- Spilt liquid should be blotted immediately with a dry cloth or kitchen paper until dry - do NOT rub as this can cause discoloration and damage the finish
- Avoid over exposure to sunlight, to prevent colour fading
- Beware of sharp objects that may tear or scratch the leather
Wood (unpainted)
- Furniture with a hard lacquer, wax polish or painted surface should be dusted with a dry cloth
- Waxed furniture should be given a coat of beeswax a couple of times a year
- Avoid spray polishes as they contain silicones which may spoil the furniture's surface over time
- Always use protective mats and coasters to protect surfaces from heat and liquids
- Wipe up spills immediately
- Never use sharp object or knives on the surface of the product
- Furniture will endure most temperatures in a home, but where possible avoid placing furniture directly next to heat sources such as radiators and fires
- Veneer is used on a few of our furniture ranges and can increase durability, strength and make it easier to care and maintain the furniture - if veneer is used it will always be stated in the product description. Veneer is comprised of real wood, therefore requires appropriate care and as outlined for wood furniture above
Painted Wood
- Hand painted brush stroke finish's will hold up to everyday wear and tear, but bear in mind it is still a wood product so needs to be cared for properly
- Painted furniture still requires regular dusting with a damp cloth. When required, use a mild, non-abrasive detergent and warm water. Wring cloth nearly dry and work on a small section at a time, then rinse with clear water and carefully dry afterwards
- Always clean up spills immediately using an absorbent cloth - never leave water to settle on the surface as this will cause damage
- Always use protective mats and coasters to protect surfaces from heat and liquids
- Never use sharp object or knives on the surface of the product
- AVOID chemical cleaners or liquid furniture polish
Metal
- Metal furniture requires minimal maintenance
- Use a soft cotton cloth and clean mild detergent or water, using a towel immediately to dry the furniture afterwards
- Any damage is usually due to rust. To avoid this and as a precaution, you may choose to use a soft wax after cleaning which will help seal it
- To remove any spots of rust, use a rust remover, following the manufactures guidelines carefully
- Smudges and smears can be removed from metal furniture using a window cleaner and a paper towel
- Indoor metal furniture is NOT recommended for use outdoors
Glass
- Always use protective mats and coasters to protect surfaces from heat and liquids
- Never use sharp object or knives on the surface of the product
- Do not use the glass as a chopping board, or strike hard with objects
- Do not sit or stand on horizontal glass surfaces
- Do not place very hot or cold items against or in close proximity to glass surface(s)
- Blot any spills immediately. Do not wipe as this will spread the spillage
- Clean the surface with a clean soft (non-abrasive) cloth and mild detergent or stone soap
Marble
- Always use protective mats and coasters to protect surfaces from heat and liquids
- Never use sharp object or knives on the surface of the product
- Blot any spills immediately. Do not wipe as this will spread the spillage
- Clean the surface with a clean soft (non-abrasive) cloth and mild detergent or stone soap. Do not use cleaners containing acids
Outdoor
- Never use sharp object or knives on the surface of the product
- Metal furniture designed for outdoor use will age naturally due to the additional elements found in an exterior environment
- It is normal for cast and wrought iron products to develop surface rust and this aged appearance is to be expected. The rust will not affect the integrity of the product but adds a rustic patina finish to the items
- Metal outdoor products will age quicker when in close proximity to the coast due to the increase of salt in the air
- Steel and aluminium products will dull and corrode over time, again depending on placement and exposure to the elements
- Some planters and furniture will have distressing, antiquing already applied and this will be a unique feature to depict a pre aged appearance
- To clean metal furniture, use a soft cotton cloth and clean with mild detergent or water. Specific cleaning products are available from hardware stores
- Smudges and smears can be removed from metal furniture using a window cleaner and a paper towel
- Indoor metal furniture is NOT recommended for use outdoors
- To ensure the longevity of outdoor furniture and to protect it against the elements, we recommend storing cushions indoor and using a cover to protect furniture when not in use, or where possible store indoors
- - - - -
LIGHTING SAFETY
- We recommend installation by a qualified electrician
- All lighting products conform with all relevant safety regulations
- Always ensure the power is switched off from the mains prior to cleaning or carrying out any maintenance on the lights
- Indoor lighting is only suitable for use indoors and should not be used outdoors
LIGHTING CARE & MAINTENANCE
- Always read the care instructions provided with the lighting product carefully
- Use a clean dry soft cloth
- Avoid the use of polishers, cleaners and abrasives, as they will damage the finish of the product
- To remove dust or fingerprints, wipe gently with a soft clean cloth
- Ensure the power is switched off from the mains and allow to cool before cleaning or carrying out any maintenance on electrical products
- Glass shades should be only washed in lukewarm water and dried thoroughly before refitting
- When changing a bulb, ensure the power supply has been disconnected and the bulb has cooled down before replacing

Where do I find information about how to care for or maintain a product?
An overview of product care and maintenance can be found here - including information on how to care for upholstered product such as sofas and armchairs (including linen, cotton, velvet and leather), as well as metal, glass, marble, wood (painted and unpainted), outdoor furniture and lighting. Please always read the individual product label(s) and any care, maintenance and installation instructions provided on delivery carefully, before use. Please hold onto any instructions provided and keep for future reference.
Do your products come with a guarantee?
All of our products, including our furniture and lighting ranges, come with a 1 year manufacturers guarantee as standard. Our Industrial Rustic, Industrial Reclaimed and Nordic Grey furniture collections also come with a five year warranty against all manufacture related issues.
How do I pay for an order?
Orders can be placed via our online store. Just add the item(s) you would like to purchase to your basket and then follow the instructions directing you through to our SSL secure checkout. We offer a range of payment options, including by debit and credit card, Amex, PayPal, Shop Pay, Google Pay, Apple Pay and a select range of 0% finance payment options to help spread the cost through our Buy Now Pay Later partners, Klarna, Clearpay and PayPal.
If you would prefer to place an order by debit or credit card over the phone with us, please call us on 01244 911 890.
A product I would like to purchase is out of stock?
If the product you are interested in is currently out of stock, or we don't have the quantity you require, please contact us for availability and re-stock dates via phone on 01244 911 890 or email us at info@thedenandnow.co.uk. Alternatively you can select to be notified when an item is back in stock by inputting your email address underneath the 'Notify me when this product is available' option on a sold out product page. Please note that some of our vintage and reclaimed pieces are one-offs, but where possible we will happily look to source an alternative for you.
I would like to place a Pre-Order. How do I go about this?
Sometimes when a product is out of stock, we make it available for pre-order. This means that the product in question is currently out of stock but is on order with our supplier, so will be back in stock soon. If a product is on pre-order it will clearly state this at the top of the product description with the expected back in stock date - please note that this date can be subject to change, but we will always endeavour to keep you updated on progress of your pre-order and update the product page to to reflect the most accurate date, at that time.
To confirm a pre-order, please place an order as you would usually via our online store - you will receive an order confirmation notification through via email following payment. Once the product arrives with us from our supplier, we will allocate all pre-orders first as a priority. Please note that pre-orders are confirmed paid orders, so not just a reservation and are subject to our usual terms and conditions.
Is it possible to split my order?
If you have placed an order which contains pieces currently available on pre-order, in certain circumstances we can look to split your order so that you receive those 'in stock' pieces first, and then the pre-ordered pieces at a later date, once they arrive back into stock. For home accessories we will usually wait and send the complete order altogether, once the remaining items have arrived into stock - this reduces any additional delivery charges that may be incurred and helps cut down emissions. However, for larger orders such as lighting, mirrors and furniture, we can look to put these onto split deliveries, at no additional charge or cost to you. For more information please email us at info@thedenandnow.co.uk or call us on 01244 911 890.
Will be order be delivered altogether?
Some of our products, such as furniture, lighting and large/fragile items which have a longer dispatch time (e.g.: large rugs and mirrors, wall shelving, vertical gardens and prints) are sent directly from our brands by their in-house logistics teams or specialist/dedicated couriers. Therefore some items may be dispatched and delivered separately. When an item is on its way you’ll receive a dispatch notification via email with the relevant tracking details.

Reward Den is our loyalty club - for every order, like/follow, social share, sign up or friend referral, you'll receive points, which can be used as a discount off your next order or to enjoy free delivery. Read more about our Reward Den here.

For further information, please see our Delivery & Returns policy.
Why do you not offer free returns?
As an independent business we pride ourselves on offering an array of carefully curated, quality products as well as exceptional customer service - and we're proud to say that as a result it's extremely rare that a product is returned, which along with our five star reviews, we hope offers our customers the confidence to shop with us.
With this in mind, we took the decision to offer FREE delivery for any order over £100 delivered within the UK mainland, so more customers can enjoy and benefit from not having to pay additional delivery charges - rather than offer free returns, which is much less likely to be needed.
As a business we are always looking at ways to become more sustainable and environmentally conscious. Offering free returns and encouraging shipping back and forth creates unnecessary CO2 emissions. Supporting responsible and thoughtful purchasing helps reduce our environmental impact.
What if the item is not what I expected?
We try to show each item in its natural state. However, as some of our products are made from reclaimed wood and/or are handcrafted, you may find that some products have subtle variations from one piece to the next, or that wood grains and sizes vary slightly. If for any reason you feel that the item is not how you thought and you wish to return it, please follow the return guidelines, as outlined in our Delivery & Returns policy.
What if an item arrives damaged?
We take great care in wrapping our items to ensure they arrive with you safely. However in the event that your order does happen to arrive damaged, please contact us immediately via email at info@thedenandnow.co.uk or call 01244 911 890. We will then arrange directly with you to have the item returned to us and for a replacement to be sent out at the earliest opportunity. If the item is out of stock or a one-off piece, we shall where possible offer an exchange or replacement. Alternatively we can issue you with a full refund.
In regards to furniture, please ensure that prior to signing for any furniture deliveries, you check that the packaging is intact - this is very important as we use a third party courier and unfortunately will be unable to accept claims for damages that have been caused in transit where the item has been signed for as 'packaging intact'. If once you unpack the furniture you find that it is damaged in any way, please notify us immediately via email at info@thedenandnow.co.uk, ideally within 24 hours of delivery. It would be helpful to attach photographic evidence of any damages (caused to the furniture and/or packaging) in order for us to process your claim as quickly as possible. Any damaged furniture will then be either replaced free of charge, or a refund will be issued.
For further information, please see our Delivery & Returns policy.

Our Commitment
Here at The Den & Now we are committed to becoming as sustainable and environmentally responsible as possible, from the products that we source and the brands we work with, to the eco-friendly packaging we use to wrap your orders and how we operate within the business day-to-day.
Providing stylish products for your home, that look good as well as do good, is extremely important to us, both personally and as an independent family-run business.
We know this is just the start, but it is something that we are extremely committed to improving as we grow and expand as a business, in order to further reduce our environmental impact.
What We Are Doing
Our Brands
We only work with and align ourselves with brands who are ethically and socially responsible, who promote good labour and meet the highest of standards throughout their supply chains.
Many of our brands work closely with local artisans, craftsmen and communities. From employing workers from disadvantaged backgrounds through social workshops, to working with Goodweave, a non-profit organisation working hard to end exploitative child labour, whilst inspecting factories and providing rehabilitation and education for former child weavers.
Our Products
We look to source products which are sustainable and ethically made.
Our furniture brands use timber sourced from responsibly managed forests and sustainable plantations where possible, with a focus on sustainable and fast-growing materials such as mango wood, acacia, rattan and bamboo. Whilst several of our key furniture ranges (Industrial Rustic and Industrial Reclaimed) are handmade by skilled craftsmen from reclaimed wood.
Our lighting ranges are all handcrafted from natural and recycled materials, including metal and sustainable materials such as rattan and seagrass.
Many of our soft furnishing products (cushions, rugs and throws) are made from natural materials such a wool, jute and recycled cotton. Whilst our organic cotton is Goodweave and OEKO-TEX® certified, which uses low-impact dyes and a sustainable production process.
Other products include sustainably produced vases, recycled paper planters and washable paper storage bags, recycled drinking glasses, shelving units made from locally sourced salvaged materials, storage baskets handwoven from recycled PET, seagrass storage baskets, bamboo mirrors and palm leaf wall hangings.
We also stock a range of sustainable wellness products, from 100% natural soy wax candles, to natural handmade vegan soaps and plant-based aromatherapy oils.
Built To Last
We really do care about what we do and are proud of the brands that we work with and the products we stock. Our aim is to offer a stylish range of carefully crafted, quality products that you'll love and enjoy for a long time to come. Although we do follow interior trends, we very much believe that it's about finding your own personal style and products that work for you, your home and your lifestyle.
All of our furniture, lighting and homeware is carefully chosen, ensuring that it is made to the highest quality and finish, so it can be treasured for many years to come.
Packaging
All products which are packed and dispatched from the Den are carefully packed in 100% recycled and recyclable packaging, which is fully biodegradable. Including globular embossed paper, oxo-degradable bubble wrap and shredded paper. As a business we ensure that any waste where possible is recycled.
Transport & Deliveries
All of our furniture, large fragile items (such as mirrors and prints) and lighting are sent directly from the brands. This cuts down on deliveries and reduces our carbon footprint.
The majority of of our homeware orders are sent via Royal Mail and Parcelforce. Royal Mail is committed to leading the way in sustainable delivery, with many deliveries now done on foot to reduce emissions. They also offer a Local Collect service and provide a fleet of electric and bio-CNG vehicles. Parcelforce meanwhile use eco-start delivery vans, therefore lowering carbon emissions. They are currently trialled electric and hybrid vehicles. Our lighting courier DPD uses low emission vehicles and supports local community initiatives.
Furniture deliveries are based around areas and postcodes, which as well as allowing us to offer free delivery, further reduces our carbon footprint and lowers emissions. We also only deliver furniture within the UK, Ireland and the Channel Islands.
One Tree Planted For Every Order
We've teamed up with Sprout and theGoodAPI, which means for every order you place we are committed to planting one mangrove tree in Madagascar, in partnership with Eden Reforestation Projects. We do this by contributing a % of each sale.
You can also choose to plant an additional 3 trees with your order for £1.00, which can be selected at checkout.
Reforestation efforts revive natural habitats, improve coral reef health, support local livelihoods and aid in the fight against climate change by extracting CO2 from the air.
Why Madagascar? Madagascar is one of the world’s top biodiversity conservation priorities because of its endemic species and severe habitat loss rates. Restoration in Madagascar is important because the destruction of the mangrove estuaries along the coastline has caused mudflats to wash into the ocean, destroying once-productive fisheries and increasing the vulnerability of coastal communities to hurricanes, tsunamis, and floods. In the inland region of Madagascar, deforestation threatens one of the world’s rarest and most diverse forest systems.
Trees are planted by Eden Reforestation Projects. You can read more about their work here.
