Our Commitment

Here at The Den & Now we are committed to becoming as sustainable and environmentally responsible as possible, from the products that we source and the brands we work with, to the eco-friendly packaging we use to wrap your orders and how we operate within the business day-to-day.

Providing stylish products for your home, that look good as well as do good, is extremely important to us, both personally and as an independent family-run business.

We know this is just the start, but it is something that we are extremely committed to improving as we grow and expand as a business, in order to further reduce our environmental impact.

What We Are Doing

Our Brands

We only work with and align ourselves with brands who are ethically and socially responsible, who promote good labour and meet the highest of standards throughout their supply chains.

Many of our brands work closely with local artisans, craftsmen and communities. From employing workers from disadvantaged backgrounds through social workshops, to working with Goodweave, a non-profit organisation working hard to end exploitative child labour, whilst inspecting factories and providing rehabilitation and education for former child weavers.

Our Products

We look to source products which are sustainable and ethically made.

Our furniture brands use timber sourced from responsibly managed forests and sustainable plantations where possible, with a focus on sustainable and fast-growing materials such as mango wood, acacia, rattan and bamboo. Whilst several of our key furniture ranges (Industrial Rustic and Industrial Reclaimed) are handmade by skilled craftsmen from reclaimed wood.

Our lighting ranges are all handcrafted from natural and recycled materials, including metal and sustainable materials such as rattan and seagrass.

Many of our soft furnishing products (cushions, rugs and throws) are made from natural materials such a wool, jute and recycled cotton. Whilst our organic cotton is Goodweave and OEKO-TEX® certified, which uses low-impact dyes and a sustainable production process.

Other products include sustainably produced vases, recycled paper planters and washable paper storage bags, recycled drinking glasses, shelving units made from locally sourced salvaged materials, storage baskets handwoven from recycled PET, seagrass storage baskets, bamboo mirrors and palm leaf wall hangings.

We also stock a range of sustainable wellness products, from 100% natural soy wax candles, to natural handmade vegan soaps and plant-based aromatherapy oils.

Built To Last

We really do care about what we do and are proud of the brands that we work with and the products we stock. Our aim is to offer a stylish range of carefully crafted, quality products that you'll love and enjoy for a long time to come. Although we do follow interior trends, we very much believe that it's about finding your own personal style and products that work for you, your home and your lifestyle.

All of our furniture, lighting and homeware is carefully chosen, ensuring that it is made to the highest quality and finish, so it can be treasured for many years to come.

Packaging

All products which are packed and dispatched from the Den are carefully packed in 100% recycled and recyclable packaging, which is fully biodegradable. Including globular embossed paper, oxo-degradable bubble wrap and shredded paper. As a business we ensure that any waste where possible is recycled.

Transport & Deliveries

All of our furniture, large fragile items (such as mirrors and prints) and lighting are sent directly from the brands. This cuts down on deliveries and reduces our carbon footprint.

The majority of of our homeware orders are sent via Royal Mail and Parcelforce. Royal Mail is committed to leading the way in sustainable delivery, with many deliveries now done on foot to reduce emissions. They also offer a Local Collect service and provide a fleet of electric and bio-CNG vehicles. Parcelforce meanwhile use eco-start delivery vans, therefore lowering carbon emissions. They are currently trialled electric and hybrid vehicles. Our lighting courier DPD uses low emission vehicles and supports local community initiatives.

Furniture deliveries are based around areas and postcodes, which as well as allowing us to offer free delivery, further reduces our carbon footprint and lowers emissions. We also only deliver furniture within the UK, Ireland and the Channel Islands.

One Tree Planted For Every Order

We've teamed up with Sprout and theGoodAPI, which means for every order you place we are committed to planting one mangrove tree in Madagascar, in partnership with Eden Reforestation Projects. We do this by contributing a % of each sale.

You can also choose to plant an additional 3 trees with your order for £1.00, which can be selected at checkout.

Reforestation efforts revive natural habitats, improve coral reef health, support local livelihoods and aid in the fight against climate change by extracting CO2 from the air.

Why Madagascar? Madagascar is one of the world’s top biodiversity conservation priorities because of its endemic species and severe habitat loss rates. Restoration in Madagascar is important because the destruction of the mangrove estuaries along the coastline has caused mudflats to wash into the ocean, destroying once-productive fisheries and increasing the vulnerability of coastal communities to hurricanes, tsunamis, and floods. In the inland region of Madagascar, deforestation threatens one of the world’s rarest and most diverse forest systems.

Trees are planted by Eden Reforestation Projects. You can read more about their work here.
